If you have have ever traveled to Africa and visited some of its main cities, you will easily agree with other Africa travel enthusiasts that Cape Town is indeed the greatest of all African cities. On the contrary, if you have never visited the city before, you may think all these descriptions you read about it’s beauty are a bit exaggerated. Several travelers who have been there claim to fall in love with the city on their first visit, almost to the extent of being seduced to stay forever.

Table Mountain

Nature endowed Cape Town with many splendid gifts, the most outstanding of which is the Table Mountain. Towering right behind the city at 1086m above sea level, the Table Mountain is the pride of Capetonians, so much that they consider it the “spirit of the city”. Without this flat-topped mountain, much of the city’s splendour would be gone.

For starters, Table Mountain forms the ever-present gorgeous backdrop that makes Cape Town a photographers’ paradise.

But beyond that, the mountain is at the center of most travel activities in in the city. Lovers of adventure have a great time trekking in the many world class hiking routes up and on top of the mountain. If you enjoy mountain climbing and mountaineering, Table mountain has several reasonably challenging abseiling crags you may be interested in. And when you don’t want to break a sweat, you can ride on a cable car to the top of the mountain and enjoy the great scenery below.

Cape Town Beaches

Besides the Table Mountain, the beaches near and around Cape Town are another major attraction. Two oceans meet at the cape peninsula: the cool Atlantic Ocean and the warmer Indian Ocean. The result is two different, but equally fascinating styles of beaches. Many fashionable travelers prefer the beaches on the western side of the peninsula, i.e. the cooler Atlantic Ocean side. This is mostly because these beaches enjoy longer hours of sunshine and do not experience the sometimes irritating “Cape Doctor” wind. The Atlantic Seaboard is arguable most popular of these beaches. Its a long stretches from V&A waterfront in Cape Town to Hout Bay.

The Winelands

The famous Cape Winelands are yet another reason you should visit this great metropolis. The winelands consist of very fertile and beautiful valleys planted with large vine fields. The green of the valleys and the beauty of the surrounding mountains give the Cape Winelands a very romantic aura, the kind that is hard to describe with words. Most of the best South African brandy and wines are produced from these vines. Though the winelands are not really within the city itself, they are only a few minutes to one-hour drive away. There are a number of smaller towns and villages in the Cape Winelands, with Stellenbosch being the most renowned.

Robben Island

One other great attraction that you will find near Cape Town is the infamous Robben Island. This is the Island mostly remembered as the prison Island where Nelson Mandela spent about 18 of his 27 years prison term. From the V&A Waterfront, Robben Island is only about 12 kilometers away, a trip of roughly 40 minutes by boat. In fact, Cape Town and the Table Mountain are seen clearly and perhaps more beautifully from Robben Island. The Island is today an important icon of South Africa’s struggle against apartheid, with the former prison having been made a museum. Robben Island is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Other Attractions

By many other merits, Cape Town is a lovely city. For the business and luxury traveler, the city boasts of having some of the best golf courses and tourist resorts and lodges in Africa, and indeed in the world. You can still go on an amazing African safari from here. The nearby Solole Game Reserve for example is one good destination for wildlife safaris. Adventure travel in Africa cannot be any better than in this great African city, what with shark-cage diving, lots of other water sports activities, mountain climbing, and great trekking trails in Table mountain.

Culturally, Cape Town is as interesting as it can ever get. Capetonians are some of the friendliest and most fun-loving people in Africa. The city has a lot to offer in the form of music and entertainment, art and craft, and great night-life. The Cape Town carnival (to be launched on March 18 2010) and the annual Cape Town Jazz Festival are just some of the activities that indicate that the city is full of life. If you have not traveled to Cape Town before, you should consider taking that trip today, and I assure you, it will be an unforgettable experience.

Are we here because we’re black or are we here because we’re intelligent?” asked Sam Mgobozi, 19, a middle-class black student who attended a first-rate high school in Durban and finds affirmative action offensive, study useven as he concedes that poor black applicants may still need it.

The University of Cape Town was supposed to have settled this debate last year when its professors — 70 percent of them white men — supported a policy that gave admissions preferences based on apartheid racial categories to black, study usmixed-race and Indian students.

Instead, unease with the current approach has spilled out over the past year in fierce exchanges on newspaper editorial pages and formal debating platforms.

Sixteen years after the political ascent of the black majority, the university’s dilemma resonates across a society conflicted about how best to achieve racial redress, whether in corporate board rooms or classrooms.

Prof. Neville Alexander, a Marxist sociologist who was classified as mixed race under apartheid, has roused the campus debate with the charge that affirmative action betrays the ideals of nonracialism that so many fought and died for during the long struggle against apartheid. Professor Alexander, who spent a decade imprisoned on Robben Island with Nelson Mandela, insists that the University of Cape Town, which is public, must resist pressure from the government to use racial benchmarks in determining how well the university is performing. “The government under apartheid did the same and we told them to go to hell,” he said in one standing-room-only campus debate.

Affirmative action’s champion on campus is Max Price, the vice chancellor, who was himself detained as an anti-apartheid student activist in the mid-1970s.

Dr. Price, who grew up as a child of white privilege, contends that preferences based on apartheid’s racial classifications provide a means to help those harmed by that system to gain critical educational opportunities.

The university has an openly stated policy of admitting blacks who have substantially lower test scores than whites, but whites still outnumber blacks almost two to one — 45 percent versus 25 percent — among the 20,500 South African students at the university. In South Africa, 79 percent of the population is black and only 9 percent is white.

And even with extensive programs of compensatory instruction on campus to help disadvantaged students, just over half of the black students graduated in five years in recent years, while four out of five whites completed their educations in that time, university statistics show. “We’re getting the best here and the best is struggling,” said a deputy vice chancellor, Crain Soudien.

The situation is even bleaker in higher education across the country. In engineering, law, the sciences and business management, only about a third or fewer of black students manage to get a degree in five years, researchers have found. The country’s efforts to produce black professionals remain crippled by failing public high schools in impoverished rural areas and black townships that the post-apartheid government has proved unable to fix.

Social class is another complicating factor. There are wide disparities in income between white and black South Africans, but also among blacks. The job market rewards graduates of top universities — black and white — while punishing the ill-educated, who are overwhelmingly black.

Students and professors here ask whether children of the emerging black middle and upper classes should continue to get the same break on admissions as impoverished black students. The university is developing nonracial measures of disadvantage — for example, whether applicants’ parents went to a university, or the quality of the high schools the students themselves attendedstudy us.

Making a trip to Capetown was on top of my agenda as the city is not just the capital of South Africa but also the cynosure of all eyes in the African Continent.

Our travel agent had booked us on a South African Airways flight that took us from London to Capetown in just nine hours flat. Reading my favorite novels and

listening to my favorite music tracks gave me the much needed stress relief that I was looking for.

I was pretty exhausted by the time I reached Capetown and on my way to the hotel, we saw the imposing Table Mountain that literally kept us spell-bound. We felt like alighting from the car and ascending right upto the summit of the mountain. Such was the beauty and charm of this mountain that stood right in the middle of the city of Capetown.

Our sightseeing tour of South Africa was scheduled for the next day after we had some rest and we explored places like the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, Boulders Penguin Colony, and Two Ocean Aquarium where we could see a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Capetown is also a great place for shopping and if you are looking for some high –end clothing, footwear and accessory brands, then you should walk into the Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Cobble-stoned Green Market Square, Red Shed and Waterfront Craft markets that are home to some of the leading brands in the world. You can even take a lunch break during your shopping spree and check out some of Capetown’s fine-dining restaurants that offered authentic Xhosa cosine.

On my trip to Capetown, I wanted to explore a bit of South African history and therefore decided to explore the Langa and Khyelista townships that were inhabited by Black South Africans and it gave me unique insights into the life of Black African and Hispanics during the Apartheid Era.

I also got the opportunity to see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela once lived during his exile.

Capetown as I realized was not a very costly destination and if you are scheduling to book your flights to Capetown, you should keep in mind that the total expenditure of your trip would depend on the kind of preparation you put in planning your trip. The type of airline and the class of travel (economy, business, premium economy) selected also decides the total outlay of your trip. In addition to this, the kind of lodging you choose also has a bearing on the total overheads that you incur on your entire trip.

With the help of computer forensics, you can analyze and collect information contained in any computer system. This is done in such a manner that it can be presented in any court of law as valid evidence. This electronic discovery process has to follow a standardized set of procedures to collect the evidence. That evidence will prove that a particular incident took place and will pinpoint those who were responsible for it. Investigation with the help of computer forensics involves various levels such as preservation, identification, extraction, interpretation, and documentation. Computer forensics can help in investigating almost any type of crime such as personal, business, or government matters.

Decision Group, based in Taipei, is one of the pioneers in the manufacture of PC-based Multi-Port RS232/422/425 Serial Cards, and Industrial Automation and Control Systems. And it has diversified into developing the equipment and software for Internet Content Monitoring and Forensics Analysis Solutions. It has also established a comprehensive training course for hands-on training in network forensics and the use of equipment for lawful interception of data in computer systems.

In October 2010, two IT security officers from the South African Government visited the head office of Decision Group in Taipei for training in digital forensic equipment and procedures. They were also trained in the use of this equipment as part of management system on compliance with legal requirements. They were also made aware of the menu and report systems that are used to create a balance between individual privacy protection and business data confidentiality.

The South African officers observed that most criminals used emails that are protected by SSL encryption to communicate with each other. And, as such, they were impressed by the performance and usefulness of DG SSL Interceptor in breaking the encrypted lines and in collecting evidence for prevention of crime. They found that the above equipment can also support distributed deployment with centralized management in head office. This would help small local offices without IT support staff to operate these systems with the help from a centralized helpdesk.

The officers realized that these computer forensics equipments would be essential for e-government construction and operations.

Interestingly, the specific taste of each region’s version of the Sauvignon Blanc differs slightly depending on the climate and soil conditions. Because South Africa is a country that is as diverse as the people it is home to, each farm’s Sauvignon Blanc bears its own unique flavour, whether grassy, crisp or fruity. Despite being defined by its dry, fresh nature, this grape can also be used in the production of dessert wines. Sauvignon Blanc does not take long to mature, and is best when it is still young. It is ideal alongside a dish of fish or cheese. Interestingly, it also goes down well with pasta and sushi.

Because the taste of a Sauvignon Blanc is so dependent on the area and other environmental criteria, South Africa prides itself for its rich array of quality wines. Each one, with its signature aroma, shows off another little corner of this fantastically fertile land.

Vines can be planted in rock, sand or flint, which also affects the bouquet and flavour, especially to the trained taster. It is believed that South Africa’s advantage in producing the ideal Sauvignon Blanc lies in our ability to balance acidity and fruitiness in perfect ratio to one another.

South Africa’s Sauvignon Blancs have featured high amongst international competitors, and are in enormous demand the world round. Gaining international acclaim sets South Africa apart amongst wine producers. By setting this standard, SA has gained credibility, not only for these grapes, but for a host of other varieties too. Some of the most outstanding Sauvignon Blancs to compete on a global level include Boschendal, Cederberg, Constantia Glen, Fryers Cove, Graham Beck, Jordan, Klein Constantia, Nederburg and Springfield.

Wine farmers frequently elect to pick Sauvignon Blanc grapes at different intervals in the season. This lends the end product a complex combination of flavours. The riper the grape, the sweeter it is. By combining these with the tarter, younger berries, the flavour is enhanced and balanced. When the berries are being gathered, oxygen is excluded to ensure that the flavour is kept inside the grape.

This reductive process is carried through right until the wine is bottled. The contact between the skin and the juice of the grape also needs to be monitored so that the flavours are controlled. If the contact between these two components of the grape is left for too long after picking, the wine becomes very intense. This reduces the aging ability of the wine significantly.

Even the temperature at which the Sauvignon Blanc is fermented impacts heavily on the resultant flavour. When fermentation is conducted under warmer conditions, the resulting wine has a grassier, earthy taste to it. Cooler temperatures bring out the fruity, tropical qualities of the wine. Although this wine does not require a long aging process and is best enjoyed young, oak barrels soften the flavour, while steel barrels maintain the very crisp, dry quality of the wine.

With such an adaptable and easily influenced grape, South African wine farmers are granted the ideal opportunity to prove the quality that this country’s rich soil and climate enables. This is most perfectly reflected in the crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

by DerekTGreen

Dessert wines are, by definition, high in alcohol. This alcohol is made from the increased concentration of sugar in these wines and the two combine to define them. The ratio of water to sugar can be changed by actually adding sugar, unfermented grape juice or honey before fermentation or must afterward. Alternatively, wine makers may opt to remove water during production, increasing the concentration of sugar in the volume of wine. Drying the grapes into raisins and then using these to make the wine achieves this sweetened effect too, as does freezing some of the water out of the wine, making what is known as “ice wine”. Adding Botrytis cinerea desiccates the grapes and increases their sugar content, having a similar effect.

Certain grapes, such as the Muscat, are sweeter by their very nature. These and other varieties are made sweeter by being picked only once they are completely ripe and have their highest sugar levels.

The more sun these grapes get, the sweeter they become, so wine farmers rely very much on a hot, sunny summer. To improve their grapes’ chances of maximum exposure, the farmer may choose to clip away any leaves casting a shadow on the grapes below them on the vine. This approach renders different versions of each wine every harvest, creating an unreliable (but always natural) product. One of South Africa’s most famous Muscats was the Constantia of old, and this is likely to have been sweetened in this natural way.

When selecting a dessert wine, it is vital that the wine is sweeter than the dish it is accompanying. Chocolate has a bitter base taste and this does not match well with sweet dessert wines. Baked goods with nuts and honey are far more suitably enjoyed with a sugary and flavorsome wine. Sweet, ripe fruits are also fantastically set off by a good dessert wine. When a fortified or dessert wine is well made, though, it can be enjoyed as the perfect end to a hearty meal all on its own. It should be served slightly chilled if it is white, and at room temperature if it is a red wine.

The very sweet dessert wines are not matured for very long, whereas ports are aged for far longer periods. The aging process is largely determined by the size of the oak vats in which the wine is placed. The larger the vat, the longer its contents will take to mature.

While dessert wines may be regarded by some wine connoisseurs as being inferior or subordinate to their more ‘savory’ counterparts, they have earned acclaim over the years. Their rich, sugary body is offset by their syrupy texture and alcoholic warmth, a winning combination by even the most discerning of palate’s standards.

For people who like to spice up their vacations with a bit of adventure, South Africa is the ideal destination. Here, you will find a wide range of exciting outdoor pursuits to choose from, no matter what the time of year. Whether you want to go canoeing on the Orange River, hunting exotic plants in the forests of KwaZulu-Natal, bungee jumping on the Garden Route, or mountaineering in the Drakensberg, South Africa will have something for you.

Hiking South Africa

There are about 250 hiking clubs around South Africa. Any one of them can arrange hiking tours for a day, a weekend, or longer. There are trails for beginners, and more challenging trails for veteran hikers who really like to rough it. Hiking organizations provide maps and equipment. Many of the tours provide overnight accommodation in rustic huts that have firewood, mattresses, and cold water plumbing.

There are privately operated trails, as well as trails in national parks. Kruger National Park has seven. Some of the most popular trails, such as the Otter Trail, the Tsitsikamma Trail, and the Bushman Trail, are booked up to a year in advance, so be sure to make your arrangements well in advance. If youre a dedicated hiker, you will also enjoy a uniquely South African activity called kloofing. This involves following the course of a river by wading and hopping from boulder to boulder. You have to be in good shape for this one.

Horse Riding and Pony Trekking

Maybe you would prefer to see the countryside of South Africa from a saddle. The South African National Equestrian Foundation controls sport riding in the country, and offers some great guided tours. You can ride along the beaches or cross unfenced countryside. There is a wine-tasting tour, and another that takes you to see dinosaur tracks. One very popular horseback tour takes you to see Bushman rock art. You will spend a night in a Basotho hut, and be entertained by local people doing traditional dances.

Thrills On and Under The Water

South Africa has 2,500 km (1553 miles) of gorgeous coastline. The country also has many rivers with dams that create artificial lakes. There is no shortage of opportunities for water sports here. This is one of the best places in the world for surfing, and one of the best spots in the country is Jeffreys Bay. This is where you are bound to find your perfect wave. Windsurfing and sailing are also very popular here. For something really different, try sand boarding in the massive sand dunes. If you like fast water, you can go river rafting. Coastal Kayak Trails will take you around the Cape Peninsula and along the Garden Route. Scuba diving enthusiasts will find a water wonderland of coral reefs, shipwrecks, and kelp forests. The seas are full of tropical fish and sea turtles. For those who have nerves of steel, there is shark cage diving. You can actually have a close encounter with a great white shark. Whatever kind of adventure you have a taste for South Africa will not disappoint you.

Puerto Rico Holiday – If the magic of New Orleans is still not enough for you Caribbean, consider going a little further out to sea. Puerto Rico natives are U.S. citizens, but culture is wonderfully different and yet familiar. For U.S. citizens, you do not need to say a passport or visa! While the dominant language is Spanish, you can still get around speaking only English. Of course, it’s fun to dust off your Spanish in high school as a sign of respect for your hosts.

Puerto Rico Holiday is a relatively new concept (as is the case in most Hispanic cultures). Regardless, there is a lot of companies to accept gays, such as nightclubs, bars, restaurants and accommodation.

Choose Puerto Rico Holiday

Why so many people choose a Caribbean vacation? Beaches! Puerto Rico has many sandy beaches, and they are sufficiently different from each other to satisfy any choice. Some beaches have a lot to do, such as sailing, riding a personal watercraft and more. If the calm, the relative isolation is more your speed, great beaches of Puerto Rico Holiday satisfy your taste. I want to switch. One day I’ll go to a beach that offers many activities the next day, I could pack my books and my head was out of my quiet place.

Puerto Rico Holiday – Day Trip

If you do not want to spend every day in the sun or the beach, I suggest you take a day trip. You can quickly have a completely different atmosphere on the island. Are you interested in hiking, climbing, caving or canoeing? You can enjoy all these activities, within walking distance. Although Puerto Rico is relatively small, you can not spend the time to do a series of interesting activities.

The island of diversity goes beyond the attractions of the flora and fauna – the local cultural diversity is also worth visiting during your stay in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico Holiday culture today is a fascinating blend of three different cultural groups – African, Taino (Native American) and Spanish – which historically have been in contact on the island. The two cultural festivals and a variety of museums are available throughout the year to help you learn from the political and cultural history of this unique island.
